The big topic up for debate in our household at the minute is what we should do for our family holiday next year. After a successful holiday in May to Spain with Olivia we were kicking ourselves that we hadn’t been away sooner with her as she was so good and really adapted well to the environment and the heat.
I hardly slept a wink in the days before the holiday. Like any mum I suppose I was going through all the different scenarios in my head of all the things that could go wrong or things we might forget. It was totally stupid looking back but you live and you learn, she had an absolute ball of a time away.
When I was off last week I managed to escape out for some ‘Jillian time’ leaving the Hubby and daughter at home. To be fair I said the words ‘Dunelm Mill’ and the look of horror on Christophers face spoke volumes. Off I went to exchange bedding at Dunelm and call into Boots on the way home. I was due to get some make up but decided I wanted to try something different and after reading bazillions of blogs about Boots No 7 range I wanted to go in and speak to someone on the counter and get some advice.
I’ve religiously been wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear Light as it hardly feels like im wearing any foundation at all which I like. I am not a big make up fan in that I don’t wear a lot even when going out but I think that’s partly down to just not knowing what I suited and also all the effort that goes into it all. I have never been bothered with all the time it takes. Now that I rarely get out…thats an absolute lie we are spoilt rotten with grandparents wanting Olivia 24/7..beyond lucky.. I feel like now I would like to make more of an effort. It helps hide the tired mummy eyes too 🙂 BONUS!
I have been fortunate enough this week to be off work with my hubby and little one and what a great week it has been…here is a mini round up of events
Bushmills salmon and whiskey festival
We went to stay at our house up the north coast after work on Friday. On Saturday we were lucky enough to be blessed with sunshine so headed of into the village to enjoy the start of the festival weekend. There were lots of cute little market stalls and food stands selling whiskey related treats like sausages and fudge etc yum yum!
I don’t know how all the other parents out there feel when it comes time to pack away baby clothes but it absolutely breaks my heart especially packing away all the clothes of the summer, in my eyes, this is when our daughter really became a little person.
Until Olivia could walk properly she was just a little baby to us, not all that independent but now you couldn’t take your eyes off her and she’s into everything but that’s makes her who she is…. a wee mini human who we love beyond belief.
We have literally kept everything she has ever worn as each outfit feels so sentimental to us. Each outfit represents a memory of her doing, saying or achieving something so how could I throw it away..pasta sauce stains and everything?! *sobs
Olivia and I were invited along to a 2nd birthday party last weekend and had an amazing time. It was at one of those indoor play areas and it was great to just let the kids run riot and tire themselves out without having the hassle of them wrecking the living room – I now see the value in that after having about 30 people at Olivias 1st birthday in our house – there was a lot of standing about in the kitchen nattering as we didn’t have that much room for all the big people 🙂
Olivia had a ball running around and playing with the other kids. she was the youngest there and still thought she was about 10 years old giving it her all to climb up the massive slide in the big area designated for 4 years +….One day Olivia one day!
Come the end of the month I always see a round-up on different blogs I follow of what people recommend and what they have been reading/baking/watching etc. I find these very interesting as not only do I think to myself ‘ohh that eyeshadow looks great’ but I also just can’t quite understand where these people actually get the time to do all these things in one whole month – talk about multitasking mummies; very impressive indeed im in awe!
This all got me thinking about the summer being over and what I had achieved from the list that I set myself after coming from holidays in May. In short the answer is…NOTHING.. I cant even find the written list. We got a new kitchen in while we were away and I think the list may have gone in the skip along with all my other dreams of an organised home, true fact!
My plan with this blog is to keep it real. There is no point just showing all the rainbows and butterflies. Every other person out there knows life isn’t always that way especially in a house with 2 full-time working parents and a toddler who decided she wants to play with everything at once. I think burgled houses may be more tidy at times, awful to say but true to a certain extent. I will even admit sometimes, just sometimes when Olivia goes to bed we don’t even tidy up her mess as she will only drag it all out again in the morning; does this make us bad parents?!
In light of all these wonderful blogs that have achieved so much in a month im going to own up to all that we havent achieved in three. Oh gosh here goes…
I recently read a post from Brummymummy on how dads rock especially when on holidays. Chris and I had such a laugh reading the blog as we could totally relate to everything that was said from our holiday adventures back in May. Infact ive read it several times, just click the name to check it out its such a good read; as is the whole blog.
This post got me thinking about a conversation I had with Chris a few weeks ago when he started reading all the posts I have done thus far on here and then claims he is hardly mentioned. This makes me really annoyed because he is literally THEE best dad ever to Olivia and does so much with her so im going to dedicate a whole post solely to him…you are welcome Christopher 🙂
I was clearing out my purse recently and came across so many store cards that havent seen the light of day in years even a Makro card circa 2003 which ive never used. I found a Matalan store card in my maiden name and registered to my parents address when I had a thought; when was the last time I entered that store? where even is my local store? so i kept the card in order to investigate.
I fired up Google and search for Matalan online. My goodness was this the best idea ever…I haven’t seen homewear so gorgeous in such a long time! Sometimes though when you look online it can be hit or miss when you visit a store as to whether or not they actually have the merchandise but I was fortunate enough that my luck was in and everything I had seen online was available in my local store. Great for me not so great for the bank balance oops!
I’ve spent the last few days enjoying quality time with my family and time off work. While its been the best 4 days boy had I nearly forgot how exhausting it is entertaining a 17 month old all day…I think I get a better break at work!! For 4 days straight ive been spinning around, jumping up and down, singing my heart out to every nursery rhyme ever created (plus actions) and without revealing TMI changing nappies into double figures daily with a teething baby (mums/dads you know what i mean #boke)
In between all this we have had a few adventures out and about. My few days off were timed well as my lovely sister-in-law was home from London visiting so it was great to spend time together and for Olivia to have all that quality Auntie time. We hit our favourite spot Scarva park while the sun was shining on friday. Auntie ‘Deaf’ as she is known (its Stephanie but thats the best Olivia can manage bless her) received her own personal adventure stick from her darling niece to take back to London. As mentioned in my previous post this is an essential at the park so we had a good laugh when Olivia handed it to her.
This weekend was quite non eventful for us due to the rubbish weather. Its suppose to be summer so come on sunshine! I keep seeing on my Facebook timeline ‘heatwave coming in August’ then the next post is ‘worst weather in 20 years coming in August’ it just can’t make up its mind which really doesn’t suit me stuck indoors with a 17 month old toddler.
One of the worst* things about the weather (*sounds dramatic) is that I have all these summer clothes for Olivia that fit her now and if the sunshine doesn’t come back they will be useless!! I have had to step up the washing so I can get vests and long sleeve tops washed in time for the week ahead which is a downer as she has beautiful dresses im dying to get on her booooo rain…and as mentioned I have to do double the washing to keep up 🙁
